One of my main goals while in Sitka this summer was to meet and photograph rad couples in killer environments. Emily and Mike were introduced to me by a mutual friend. As soon as we met, I knew we were going to have a fun time! Emily and Mike met at the Salt Institute For Documentary Studies in Portland, Maine. Emily was studying radio, while Mike was studying photography. The first day of class, they were partnered together to cover Maine's biggest ice fishing derby. It turned out to be serious task, full of ice shacks, snowmobiles, and waiting. Endless waiting. So, they really had to work together - as Mike took pictures and Emily interviewed families - and trust each other. After fourteen hours on frozen Lake Sebago, they realized they didn't want to stop talking. They split a pizza. And after three-and-a-half years, they haven't stopped seeking wild places, sharing food, and telling stories together. Thank you Emily and Mike for taking the time to let me photograph your love!
